Free ICT CPD

leave a comment »

I’m currently developing an ICT Leaders course at Masters level for Naace, part of which will make use of the excellent ICTCPD4Free materials already created, thanks to a TDA grant. If you have never looked at ICTCPD4Free before I would urge you to do so. It’s all online (with some extra work to be done in school) and could be a useful approach to staff development. For example, the e-safety courses could be used within staff meetings or as part of a training day. As it says on the tin they are absolutely free to use – a real bonus when budgets are tight.

Mobile phones in schools

Gove wants to ban them (supported by some in the e-safety industry who ought to know better) rather than recognising that these are powerful tools for learning when properly used. Ewan McIntosh recently blogged about an experiment in Hull where pupils used their phones with data loggers in a science experiment. One small example but I suspect we could easily identify many more.
